G. N. Devy is an award winning writer, distinguished scholar, institution builder and prominent public intellectual. He writes in three languages--Marathi, Gujarati and English and has written or edited over a hundred books in various disciplines such as Literature, Education, Philosophy, Anthropology, History and Linguistics. The People's Linguistic Survey of India, initiated and led by him, covered over 700 languages and is published in 50 volumes (Orient Blakswan). He founded the Bhasha Research Centre in Baroda and the Adivasi Academy at Tejgad in Gujarat. he has received several international and  national awards and honors including the Padmashri.
