Madhu Nataraj

Performer, choreographer,  mentor and arts entrepreneur - Madhu believes dance is a potent medium of expression and transformation in the public domain. Ranging from artistic intervention, education, creativity, to healing, her projects aim to materialize this philosophy. She trained in Kathak from her mother Dr Maya Rao and from Smt. Chitra Venugopal. Her ‘Taalim’ (training) from her mother lay special emphasis on the ‘Bhaav’ or ‘Abhinaya’ (Expressional motif) aspect, ‘Kathavaachak’ (Narrative content) and the poetry of the form. She studied Contemporary dance in New York and returned with a vision to create a unique dance company with its own distinctive contemporary Indian identity – the Natya STEM Dance Kampni. She also heads India's premier Dance academy- The Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography, comprising verticals of training, performance, documentation and outreach. Madhu has created over 300 choreographic works (sequences  over  & productions) and has performed in almost all the major dance festivals inIndia and in 36 countries.She is also a Panelist at important Design, Cultural and Academic institutions and is often invited to perform, design programs and Choreographic works, globally.
