China is reshaping the global geoeconomic order in more ways than one. Today, it is the world’s second-largest economy, accounting for nearly 20% of global GDP. Its sheer size means that nothing that happens within the confines of its territorial bounds is limited to its economy alone.

On one hand, China’s economic rise has created negative externalities for the world, the effects of which have become much more pronounced lately. On the other hand, China has shown an increasing willingness to weaponise trade and its dominance in the global supply chains. As the competition with the West intensifies, China is also perfecting its coercive economic toolkit.

As the world stood witness to China’s growing geo-economic influence, which became apparent during the US-China standoff over trade and tariffs in 2025, there is a growing and unprecedented interest in understanding China and how it is reshaping the global geoeconomic order.

If questions relating to China’s phenomenal rise, its economic model, the repercussions of its rise on the global economy, weaponisation of trade, catching up with the West, and plans to reform the global financial system interest you, this course is for you.

Across eight tightly designed lectures, the course dissects the China Model and the pivotal role of local governments as engines of growth. It explains how China systematically upended the global trading regime and why the old rules no longer apply. Participants will be equipped with a practical framework to de-risk from China, separating political rhetoric from economic reality. The course goes further, unpacking China’s challenge to the West-dominated global financial order, critically assessing whether China has truly caught up with the West, and decoding the strategic intent embedded in its recommendations for the 15th Five-Year Plan. Finally, the course distils the internal contradictions and challenges within the Chinese economy.

China in the Changing Geo-economic Landscape’ is an all-virtual course that is designed to equip policymakers, analysts, journalists, business leaders, and students with the tools to understand the second-largest economy’s role in shaping the emerging geo-economic order.
